Canada Indo‑Pacific Indigenous Exchange 2025-2027

The Canada Indo-Pacific Indigenous Exchange project aims to strengthen connections among Indigenous judges across the globe. In close collaboration with Te Kura Kaiwhakawā / Institute of Judicial Studies (Te Kura) in New Zealand and the World Assembly of Indigenous Judges (WAIJ), the NJI has been working to foster relationships between Indigenous judges in Canada and their judicial counterparts across the South Pacific region.

The project creates opportunities for Indigenous judges to share their customs, knowledge, and practices, while exchanging perspectives on Indigenous laws and reconciliation in Canada and the South Pacific. As part of this initiative, federally, provincially, and territorially appointed Indigenous judges from Canada participated in the inaugural World Assembly of Indigenous Judges Conference in New Zealand in October 2025.
